6 Accessible Events To Enjoy In September

It's the start of the Paralympics and we're excited to see the British Para athletes compete and bring home those gold medals. It's also nearing the end of the school summer holidays and if you are looking for things to do we've put together a list of 6 accessible events for disabled people and their families to enjoy throughout the month.
1) Rise4 Disability
The Gateway Building Kent
10th September 9am – 5pm
The founders of the Disability Expo will be hosting regional and national events for health professionals and service providers in 4 UK locations. 2) Accessible Futures Summit
Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama
10th September 9am – 5pm
Media Cymru and the university of south wales are hosting an accessibility summit, which aims to leave people feeling more disability confident and how to hire and retain deaf and disabled talent. The venue has 3 disabled parking spaces outside the main entrance that can be used by anyone visiting the college. Your blue badge must be displayed.

They are located on the lower ground floor and can accessed via a lift.

3) The British Science Festival
University of East London 11th until 15th Sept
The British Science Association hosts the festival and brings together scientists to discuss groundbreaking work with one another. This is an annual event and each year they bring an inspiring programme of free events, talks and workshops over a diverse range of subjects. Accessibility
The events will be hosted across different campuses all of which are wheelchair accessible. The details of this are clearly stated in the event description. 4) The Deaf Unity Café
Royal Festival Hall 13th September 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Do you want to learn British Sign Language? Join Deaf Unity as they host their monthly meet-ups with tea, coffee and snacks. It’s a great opportunity to meet people and engage in conversation while learning to sign. Everyone is welcome no matter what your skill level.
Accessibility
The Royal Festival Hall is within the Southbank Centre. They offer a free access scheme for deaf and disabled visitors so you can make the most of what the centre has to offer during your visit. To find out more, follow the link Access Scheme | Southbank Centre.
Disabled parking

5) The Making of Harry Potter
If you are a fan of Harry Potter you can experience a day of filmmaking at Warner Bros Studios London. Visitors will get the opportunity to step into the sets and the magic behind the special effects. They will showcase the iconic props and consumes used in the film series. The venue offers relaxed tours for those with Autism and sensory needs.
Carers
One free carer ticket is available for each paying disabled visitor. Disabled visitors are required to provide proof of disability. If you have any questions, the visitor service team can be contacted on 0800 640 4550 or you can fill in their online contact form.

6) Deaf Eyes Exhibition
Rich Mix Shoreditch London 26th – 30th September
This is an exhibition that takes place during the International Week for the deaf and highlights techniques to help deaf people record memories and reflections while engaging with attendees who use sign language. Attendees are welcome to create their own sculptures at their drop in session, which will be on display for people to view. They will also run a range of workshops from 2pm until 5pm on the 26th 27th and the 29th of September. The event is free to attend and spaces will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
Accessibility
The venue aims to make sure it's screenings and events are accessible. The main entrance can be accessed via a ramp on Bethnal Green Road. When you are inside they have lifts to the gallery and their performance spaces. Three of their cinema screens have wheelchair-accessible bays.
Disabled toilets
They have 4 disabled toilets on site with Radar locks
Deaf visitors
The venue has a hearing loop system at the box office, the stage and the studio spaces.
