6 Accessible Events To Enjoy In March

March was the start of the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims worldwide. We share 6 accessible events and activities for everyone to enjoy during this special month.

1) Open Iftar
14th March Victoria and Albert Museum

For Muslims around the world, the holy month of Ramadan started on the 1st of March. Ramadan is the month of fasting for 30 days. During this time they do not eat or drink from sunrise until sunset with many restaurants and organisations hosting the evening meal (Iftar) through-out the month in different locations across London. The Victoria and Albert Museum will be hosting an open iftar on the 14th of March.

Accessibility
The nearest step-free underground station is Earls Court and London Victoria station.
The entrance from Cromwell Road is step-free with a wheelchair accessible door and the exhibition road entrance is also step-free and has an automatic door at the bottom of the walkway.

Disabled parking – 12 spaces are available lacated at the Exhibition Road entrance but they can’t be booked in advance. You can park for up to 4 hours.

Mobility equipment – Wheelchairs and walking sticks are available at the information desk located at the Grand entrance. They recommend booking 24 hours in advance of your visit. You can follow the link to complete the form https://shorturl.at/wFqsX

Accessible toilets – 13 toilets are located around the museum.

2) Disabled Access Day
16th March

Disabled Access Day was founded by Euan’s guide, a disabled access charity. It was created to get conversations going between venues and the disability community. It takes place every two years. 3) Sign Language Week
17th March


Sign language week is celebrated in March every year. It aims to celebrate and educate people about British and Irish sign language. It also aims to encourage more people to start learning with many organisations putting on their own events and activities to mark the week. 4) Disability Summit
19th March online

This event is for people who work in the health and care sector. It’s been set up to empower organisations and help them to gain valuable insights in overcoming barriers in recruitment, career development, addressing bullying and discrimination. You will hear from experts on the best practices and strategies to help make your workplace more inclusive. 5) Naidex 19th - 20th March
NEC Birmingham

Naidex is the largest event dedicated to the disability community. It will have inspiring talks, seminars, activities to take part in and a number of exhibitors who will be showcasing their products and services.

Naidex will be celebrating 50 years of the show and to mark the occasion they have some new features, including comedy from Aron Simmonds and Lee Ridley, live performances, dance workshops, football taster sessions and lots more. To book your place, follow the link Naidex.

Accessibility
The venue has lifts and offers a range of facilities for disabled visitors.

Mobility equipment – They offer a range of mobility aids and is available on a first come – first serve basis. These can be booked online in advance but there is a charge, which varies depending on the mobility aid you prefer.

Disabled toilets – Therse are available throughout the venue.

6) Science Museum
Early Birds 22nd March - 8am – 11am

The Science Museum hosts Early Birds, an event dedicated to those with sensory needs. It runs on selected dates across the year. The event is free to attend but booking is required. To find out more, follow the link  Early Birds | Science Museum.

Accessibility
Lifts - The venue has lifts with the majority being wheelchair accessible and audio announcements and braille labelling on the buttons.

Accessible toilets – They are available on all levels of the venue

Mobility equipment – Manual wheelchair and folding stools are available on the day and can be pre-booked.
