6 Fun Accessible Events To Enjoy In May

It's early Spring, and beautiful sunny weather has hit the UK with even warmer temperatures to come in the coming days. Why not enjoy and make the most of it while it lasts with our list of 6 accessible events and activities to get you out and about with the family. There is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy.

1) Step Change Studios
The British Museum
3rd May - 6pm - 8pm


If you like Bollywood dancing, here’s your chance to learn with Step Change Studios as they host inclusive Bollywood dance workshops and performances. All abilities are welcome with seats for participants and the option of standing while performing. To find out more and to book, follow the link The British Museum.

The Museum welcomes all visitors and offer a range of accessible facilities for disabled visitors.  If you would like to book a manual wheelchair or a disabled parking space this can done through their ticketing team, please email tickets@britishmuseum.org or call 020 7323 8181. 2) The Museum Association
7th May 2025
Online via Zoom from 11am – 4pm.

The museum association hosts it’s annual online conference discussing ableism and the barriers disabled people face accessing museums. They will look at the practices in the workplace and how they can break down these barriers to make them more accessible and inclusive. 3) Beyond Accessibility DEI Networking Event
Kings College London
13th May - 10am – 1.30pm

The Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion hosts this in-person event that will talk about disability, equality and inclusion and the practical steps that can be taken to make workplaces accessible with reasonable adjustments and raising awareness by sharing ideas, getting conversations going and taking action.

The session will have a number of speakers who will share their lived experiences and provide practical advice and strategies to make the workplace inclusive. It’s a great opportunity to network with professionals in the DEI sector. The event is free to attend but booking is required. Follow the link to find out more and to book. 4) The British Library
18th May - 9am


The British Library hosts a special early opening for children with sensory needs. They will get the opportunity to visit the Power of Gardening exhibition and take part in a workshop in their learning centre. A sensory room is available for those who need a quiet space. This event is FREE to attend, but booking is required. To book your place, follow the link  Relaxed Early Opening for Families | British Library.

Accessibility

The library offers a range of facilities for disabled visitors.

  • Disabled parking bays - These are located on Ossulston Street, which has a ramp from the main entrance. You will need to contact the library to find out if they charge
  • Manual wheelchairs – These are available to use free of charge but is subject to availability
  • Guide dogs – Are welcome on site and dog bowls are available at the information desk
  • Hearing loops – These are available in different locations around the library

5) Science Museum
Night Owls

24th May 6.30pm – 9.30pm

The Science Museum hosts Night Owls, an event dedicated to those with sensory needs. It runs on selected dates across the year. The event is free to attend, but booking is required. To find out more, follow the link  Night Owls | Science Museum.

Accessibility

  • Lifts - The venue has lifts with the majority being wheelchair accessible and audio announcements and braille labelling on the buttons.
  • Accessible toilets – They are available on all levels of the venue
  • Mobility equipment – Manual wheelchairs and folding stools are available on the day and can be pre-booked.

The museum offers carer tickets for some of their paid activities and exhibitions. To get one, please email info@sciencemuseumgroup.ac.uk with your order number for the standard ticket, or you can call their contact centre on 0330 058 0058 to book.

6) The Making of Harry Potter
Warner Bros Studios

10th May

If you are a fan of Harry Potter, Warner Bros studios has announced that their relaxed tours are returning this year. These tours will take place on selected dates from 8am. To mark Global Accessibility Awareness Day on the 15th of May, many organisations will host their own events, attend events and participate in activities. The purpose is to get people talking, thinking and learning about accessibility and inclusion. We would love to know what your organisation will be doing on the day.
